Taken in: The Lives of America's Foster Children

Almost half a million children in the United States are in foster care. These are young people abused or neglected in their homes, or abandoned by their parents. For the last 150 years, social welfare agencies have placed children in temporary foster care. What are the real long term emotional and psychological costs of this policy? This powerful film delves in to the lives of generations of children who have grown up in foster care. They now live in a two bedroom apartment with a Spanish speaking foster mother who has three children of her own. With the help of a guidance couns [...]

Aging Out chronicles the daunting obstacles that these veterans of foster care encounter as they are forced to fend for themselves. Daniella Anderson juggles her college career with the hard reality of raising her newborn child and paying her bills. David Griffin leaves foster care for the streets, goes on a self-destructive drug and crime binge, copes with homelessness and incarceration, and eventually moves to Alaska with the hop [...]

America's Most Unwanted: LGBTQI Foster Youth in America

This documentary explores the lives of LGBTQ youth in California's foster care system. Many LGBTQ foster youth are thrown out of their homes for defining as LGBTQ before entering the foster care system, where they often encounter further abuse and homophobia. The statistics are staggering: 75% of LGBTQI foster youth in state care have experienced physical abuse and 66% preferred to live on the streets. America's Most Unwanted lends the case for more access to LGBTQ foster parenting and adoption by providing a human face to youth whose lives would have benefited from such support.
