Trinidad's Turtle Giants [electronic resource]

Local leaders launched a crusade to end the slaughter of Trinidad's thousand-pound leatherback turtles. 10,000 visitors a year come to the now famous Matura Beach, and local villages make a good living from the tourism. Trinidad's beaches support about 6,000 nesting females a year.
