Through gentle modification of their rules they are able to prosper in commercial enterprises. While they shun modern conveniences that may pull the community apart, they are permitted to use them in their businesses. The romantic image of the Amish on horse drawn carriages is only part of the story. Looks at the Pennsylvania Dutch tradition of Rumspringa (literally, 'Running around'), which is a period in a teenager's life, usually between the ages of 16 and 21 years old. During this time, they are set free to explore the world outside the Amish life. Eventually, they can make an informed decision before they make a commitment to join the church, or to leave it. The film follows four teenagers in their time of discovery.
