Racines: director Richard Copans set out in search of his family roots. His journey takes him to Lithuania, New York, Picardy and Paris. Throught out his quest he meets a worker, a Jewish poet son, a violinist, a genealogist, a descendant of slaves, several cousins ??and three jazz musicians. Racines is accompanied by two other films forming the Lithuanian trilogy: "Vilnius", portrait of a city, with the traces of Jerusalem from the north she embodied until 1940. "Rivka," the portrait of an old woman who collected the traces of the vanished Jewish community of his village.

This documentary records the testimony of Holocaust survivors who, as young Jewish men and women in the Lithuanian city of Vilna, engaged in armed resistance against the Nazis, often in opposition to fellow Jews. Reminiscences of a Journey to Lithuania

In this three part film, the first part is footage of the filmmaker's first years in America in the early 1950's in Brooklyn. The second part is of his return visit after a 25 year absence to the Lithuanian village where he was born, his reunion with his mother and related celebrations. The third part begins in Elmshorn, a suburb of Hamburg, where the filmmaker spent a year in a forced labor camp during the war. The film then moves on to the Monastery of Krems-muenster, the Stammdorff Castle of Nitsch, the house of Wittgenstein and ends with the burning of the Vienna fruit market, August, 1971.
