Inside Burma: Land of Fear : A Special Report

Loading...
This news report tells of the opression suffered by the Burmese people and the measures the government took to supress a democracy uprising in 1988. While much of the world has heard of Tiananmen Square in China, the Burmese democracy revolt has had less publicity due to greater censorship in Burma. The trafficking of Burmese girls is a direct result of political repression in Burma. Human rights abuses, war, and ethnic discrimination have displaced thousands of families leaving them with no means of livelihood. This film, through interviews with the girls, examines the social, cultural and economic forces at work in the trafficking of these Burmese girls.

The Heroin Wars: Filmed Over Thirty Years, 1965-1996

Loading...
"In 1964, director Adrian Cowell ("The Decade of Destruction") and cameraman Chris Menges ("The Killing Fields") went to the mountainous Shan region of eastern Burma to film the emerging Shan revolutionary forces in their bloody civil war against the fascist military dictatorship. The impoverished Shans had only one way to finance their war of liberation -- opium. Cowell has returned to Shan State several times over the last 30 years to record the ongoing civil war and the burgeoning opium trade. The heroin wars story is told in three parts."--Container.
