One Shot: The Life and Work of Teenie Harris

Teenie Harris was born, raised, and lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania all of his life. He is called by one of the speakers on the film as one of the most important Afro-American photographers of this century." He was raised in the Hill district of the city where his family operated an hotel favored by Black entertainers. He started out as a numbers runner for his brother who developed a numbers empire, and later financed the opening of Teenie's photographic studio. Teenie became known for his "one shot" photography. He said that one shot will do it. He is known for photographing ordinary people doing ordinary things. He ,in 1941, became a freelance photographer for the Pittsburg Courier, the number one Black newspaper in the United States.
