ZS: Zona Sur

Loading...
"Nestled in the lush valley of La Paz, Bolivia, the upper-class suburb of Zona Sur has sheltered the country's wealthy elite for many years. Here, in an adobe-tile-roofed castle, a statuesque matriarch reigns over her spoiled progeny and her Indigenous Aymaran butler. But all is not what it seems. As the mother fights with her oversexed son and clashes with her petulant daughter, her six-year-old son rambles the rooftops unnoticed. Decline hangs in the air, and the threat of aristocratic privileges changing hands signifies a new chapter of a prickly and ill-fated class war. Reflected in the rotating camera work, Zona Sur relates the story of the final days of an upper-class family, at a time when the country is undergoing massive social upheaval." --

Surire

Loading...
Surire documents the disparate elements that form a natural and social landscape in northern Chile’s isolated Surire Salt Flat, near the border with Bolivia. A Chilean Natural Monument, the salt flat and several small salt lakes make up a protected area that is home to a number of Andean species of plants and wildlife, including the suri, a large flightless bird from which the desert gets its name. A small number of Aymara elders live in this part of the desert, not far from trucks and machines that mine borax from an important deposit. --
