Summary
In 1978 Dámaso Alonso (1998-1990), poet, philologist and academic, has just received the Cervantes Prize and five volumes of his Complete Works have already been published. Describes the first departure to the world of the generation of 27, the origins of philology "Menéndez Pidal was the only philologist in 1905, with eight disciples, and from there multiply like a pyramid." He also talks about the transformation of the Royal Academy. The author of Sons of Wrath (1946), teaches the first course on Saussure in Spain, translates in 1926 the portrait of the teenage artist of Joyce and, for years, teaches in the universities of Oxford, Leipzig and Columbia. He travels through American countries giving lectures: "An approach must be tried by all the speakers of Spanish." His Spanish poetry, essay of methods and stylistic limits and his studies on San Juan de la Cruz, are a minimum part of the extensive work of the multi-award-winning essayist.
