Moses Ezekiel was born in Richmond, educated at the Royal Academy of Art in Berlin, maintained a Studio in the Baths of Diocletian in Rome, and was knighted by the King of Italy. He fought as a cadet in the Battle of New Market and graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1866. Ezekiel was the sculptor for Virginia mourning her dead and Stonewall Jackson statues at VMI. He died in Rome and was buried in Arlington Cemetery
