Native American Indians hunted along Bison paths which later became the first roads--Generally the roads followed the ridges to avoid swamps and streams--The first record of a road in the county was in 1726 with the first order for a road occurring in 1731--Many were called Rolling Roads used to roll Hogsheads of tobacco in barrels with axles pulled by oxen to the James River
