An unopened World War I first aid packet marked "FIRST AID PACKET - U.S. ARMY, CONTRACT NOV. 2 - 1916, BAUER & BLACK, CHICAGO, U.S.A., TO OPEN - PULL RING, PATENT APPLIED FOR." The kit was retained by Dr. Percy Elisha Duggins (1890-1965), a 1913 graduate of the UVA School of Medicine.
