The mess kit was owned by 8th Evacuation U.S. Army Unit Nurse Ruth Eastman during World War II. Ruth Eastman donated the kit to the UNiversity of Virginia in 1988. The following text is etched into the inside of the mess kit: "Fetty", "170", and "Ruth Anne Eastman". The following text is stamped on the mess kit exterior: "U.S. RIA, 1919".
