Crowds and lines of cars gather at the Du Quoin State Fair in Illinois; a man on a platform films the event; ten horses complete in a one-mile trotting race, followed by a second group of trotters; Hickory Smoke, the winner of the first group, and Hoot Song, the winner of the second group, compete for the top prize; Hickory Smoke wins and his driver-trainer John Simpson receives the first place trophy.
