A crowd of nearly 38,000 people fills the stands at Santa Anita Park; a man smokes a cigar and writes on a newspaper; the horses and jockeys competing in the Palos Verdes Handicap are escorted onto the track; Nashville (number 9) and jockey Willie Shoemaker pull ahead of El Khobar (number 4) and win the handicap.
