The WSLS-TV News Film Collection, 1951-1971, comprises anchor scripts and 16mm news film created by Roanoke, Va., television station WSLS. A grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities funded the preservation and digitization of this collection.

Abstract
Crowds fill the stands as the pace car leads 33 racers onto the track; the starting flag is waved and the race begins; several cars veer off the track as a result of a crash by driver Novi Special; Troy Ruttman walks away from the crash unhurt and smoking a cigarette; Pat Flaherty wins the race; rescuers rush to Dick Rathmann's car, which crashed after the race; Pat Flaherty is awarded the cup and receives a double kiss.
