The WSLS-TV News Film Collection, 1951-1971, comprises anchor scripts and 16mm news film created by Roanoke, Va., television station WSLS. A grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities funded the preservation and digitization of this collection.

A group of Western Virginia residents, including Roanoke, Va., Superintendent of Police Major Frank Webb, undertakes a two-day educational excursion aboard the USS Sirago, a United States Navy submarine, with Lieutenant Commander Shannon D. Cramer in command. Footage shows the group stading on the deck of the submarine before its departure from the Norfolk, Va., pier. During the voyage, men perform a variety of tasks above and below deck, and Cramer consults a nautical map.
