At the Hotel Roanoke in Roanoke, Va., the Sertoma Club presents Julian Stanley Wise with a plaque and a certificate. Wise founded the Roanoke Life Saving and First Aid Crew in 1927, which is considered the first independent volunteer rescue squad.
