Abstract
Members of Roanoke, Va., area fire departments stand atop ladders, painting the walls on the underside of Victory Stadium. In an interview with WSLS-TV reporter John Gilbert, firefighter Harry McKinney explains that, while Roanoke firefighters are frequently asked to offer their services for painting and other maintenance projects, these activities do not constitute a "normal" workday, and that many of the crew members resent being required to perform menial labor. McKinney informs Gilbert that the firefighters are still on call for emergencies but predicts that the circumstances will cause response times to be slower than usual.
