The WSLS-TV News Film Collection, 1951-1971, comprises anchor scripts and 16mm news film created by Roanoke, Va., television station WSLS. A grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities funded the preservation and digitization of this collection.

Spectators and participants gather in Vinton, Va., for the annual Dogwood Festival. During the festival parade, teams of majorettes lead marching bands and beauty queens wave from atop floats, while television actor Steve McQueen appears on horseback and state and local officials, including Virginia State Senator Ted Dalton and Roanoke, Va, Board of Supervisors Chairman William E. Cundiff, ride in a motorcade. Beauty queens present drum majors with awards for the best marching bands. Former Dogwood Festival Queen Pat Poindexter crowns new queen Nancy Garland.
