Abstract
John S. Letcher, Jr., of Lexington, Va., is congratulated by his parents and siblings after winning first place at the Westinghouse Science Talent Search in Washington, D.C. Letcher tells a reporter that although he could not have expected to win a competition with such a large pool of entrants, he did put forth a great deal of effort, and was hopeful that he would do well. He shares his plans to use his newly-won scholarship money to attend the California Institute of Technology, where he will take a course in nuclear physics.
