Abstract
During a conference of elementary school principals at the Hotel Roanoke, Superintendent of Public Instruction of Virginia Dr. Woodrow W. Wilkerson speaks about the accreditation of elementary schools. Later, in an interview with a reporter, Wilkerson says the financing of public education is the joint responsibility of the state and localities. He notes that although the 1966 General Assembly appropriated 447 million dollars for maintenance and operation of educational insitutions, even more is necessary for the high quality of education that the public requires.
