- From the Bulletin of the University of Virginia Medical School and Hospital, Spring 1947: "Dr. William R. Sandusky, appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery, April 1, 1946. Born October 8, 1906, Pensacola, Fla., A.B., Vanderbilt University, 1929, and M.D., 1932....Entered Army of the United States, June, 1942. Served in various capacities including Chief of Surgery of an Evacuation Hospital in the European Theatre of Operations and Consultant in Thoracic Surgery in Overseas Hospital Center. Awarded the Legion of Merit for studies on the evaluation of Penicillin in the treatment of wounds sustained in aerial warfare."
