- Summary
- The Green Alliance for Environmental Action, a coalition of student environmental groups, sponsored the second Landfill on the Lawn on September 23, 1992, on the South Lawn to ensure, as organizer Jason Titus said, that "the central Grounds has recycling one day a year." After sorting nearly a ton of trash collected from eight buildings, student volunteers determined that 83 percent of what was thrown out could be recycled. At Carruthers Hall, where the University's recycling program is already established, a similar assay found that only 31 percent of the trash was recyclable.
