Summary
Music producer and songwriter Morris "Butch" Stewart, Jr., was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 13, 1953. At twenty-two years old, he began singing backup vocals for Ramsey Louis, and by twenty-five had founded his own songwriting company, JoyArtMusic. The company wrote television and radio theme songs, as well as produced jingles for advertising. Stewart wrote the theme song to The Oprah Winfrey Show. Stewart also wrote music and lyrics for several artists, including Earth, Wind and Fire. He also collaborated on children's education music projects and founded his own label, Copia Records. He and his wife, Brenda Mitchell Stewart, founded the Art of Making Music Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises money for music education in underprivileged schools. Stewart's two children, have followed him into the music production business. Stewart passed away in 2017, at age 64.
