Summary
Library administrator Samuel Morrison was born on December 19, 1936 in Flagstaff, Arizona. He received his A.A. degree in English from Compton Junior College in 1955. From 1955-1959, he served in the United States Air Force. He earned his B.A. degree in English from California State University, Los Angeles in 1971. He received his M.S. degree in library science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1972, and became director of the Frostproof Living Learning Library. In 1974, he joined the Broward County Library System as assistant to the director and was promoted to deputy director in 1976. In 1987, Morrison was selected Chief Librarian, Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago Public Library. He completed studies at Harvard University School of Government in 1989, and the next year was appointed Director for the Broward County Library System, conceiving and founding the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
