Summary
Nonprofit chief executive Joseph "Joe" Earl Marshall, Jr. was born on May 12, 1947 in St. Louis. He earned his B.A. degree in political science and sociology in 1968. Marshall became a role model with a mission to save a generation of African American youth. In 1968, Marshall began teaching middle school in San Francisco. He earned his M.A. degree in education from San Francisco State University in 1974. Despite his influence as a teacher, Marshall saw many children drop out, go to jail or die. Marshall teamed with Jack Jacqua to form Omega Boys Club in 1987 to keep young people alive, unharmed by violence, free from incarceration and able to build positive lives.
