Summary
Nonprofit executive and television host Billye Suber Aaron was born on October 16, 1936 in Anderson County, Texas. She earned her B.A. degree in English from Texas College in 1958 and her M.A. degree in English from Atlanta University in 1960. She combined a teaching career in public schools and colleges with a part-time job in broadcasting in Atlanta. She was the first African-American woman in the southeast to co-host "Today in Georgia", a daily hour-long talk show. She met future husband, baseball player Hank Aaron, while interviewing him on the show. They married in 1973. In 1980, she joined the United Negro College Fund, rising to vice president of the southern region and creating the Mayor's MASKED Ball fundraiser. After retiring, in 1994, she and her husband founded the Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Foundation to award scholarships and grants to assist low-income children who want to pursue their education.
