Summary
Lawyer and nonprofit chief executive Rey Ramsey was born on September 10, 1960, in Lower Marion Township, Pennsylvania. In 1982, Ramsey attended Rutgers University earning his B.A. degree in political science. He became the first African American to head the Rutgers Fraternity/Sorority Council. He received his J.D. degree from the University of Virginia Law School in 1985. Ramsey moved to Oregon to begin a career in corporate law at the Portland-based law firm of Stoel Rives LLP. In 1986, he became active with Habitat for Humanity. In 1987, he became the youngest cabinet member in the history of the State of Oregon appointed to serve as Oregon's Director of Housing and Community Services. In 1996, Ramsey began working with the Maryland-based nonprofit organization Enterprise Community Partners. He served as president before co-founding One Economy Corporation, an international nonprofit with the mission of providing internet capabilities to low-income communities in 2000.
