Summary
Academic administrator, professor, and artist Willis "Bing" Davis was born on June 30, 1937, in Greer, South Carolina. An All-City basketball player, Davis graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in 1955, and entered DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana where he received his B.A. degree. He earned his M.Ed. degree from Miami University in 1967. Davis taught art at Dayton's Colonel White High School. He also taught art and coordinated black studies at DePauw University. In 1976, he was appointed assistant dean of the graduate school and professor of art at Miami University and presented a one-man show at the Studio Museum in Harlem. In 1979, Davis became chair of the art department and director of the Paul Robeson Center at Central State University. Davis was visiting artist-lecturer for Panafest '94 in Accra, Ghana. In 2010, the University of Dayton hosted a citywide celebration with exhibits and events honoring Davis's work.
