Summary
Boxer Evander Holyfield was born on October 19, 1962 in Attmore, Alabama. He began boxing at eight years old in Atlanta, Georgia. At the 1984 Olympics, Holyfield was disqualified for throwing a late punch, but earned a bronze medal. He boxed professionally, and in 1986, became the undisputed World Cruiserweight Champion. In 1988, Holyfield moved up to the heavyweight division. In 1990, he became the undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World. In a 1993 title fight against Riddick Bowe that became known as the "Fan Man Match," a parachutist tried to fly into the arena and land in the ring. Holyfield is best known for his infamous 1997 rematch with Mike Tyson where Tyson bit a portion of his ear off in the third round. Holyfield continued fighting; and, in 2010, defeated Francois Botha for the World Boxing Federation title, becoming a record-setting five-time Heavyweight Champion of the World.
