Summary
Telecommunications entrepreneur William Bonaparte, Jr., was born December 11, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. After attending Wilson Junior College and Chicago Technical College, he became the first African American private business exchange installer for Illinois Bell in 1963, moving to management in 1971. In 1976, he returned to school to earn his B.A. degree in electrical engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and then spent two years working for AT&T. In 1986, he formed Bonaparte Connections; and, in 1991, Bonaparte Corporation, an electrical contracting firm. He formed Bonaparte Properties, a firm specializing in the restoration of buildings, in 1999. Bonaparte, has been an active member of his Chicago community, has served on several different boards of directors. He has also received a number of awards, including the Cosmopolitan Chamber of Commerce and Kennedy-King College Small Business of the Year Award.
