Summary
Music producer H. B. Barnum was born on July 15, 1936 in Houston, Texas. At age four, he won a nationwide talent contest and appeared on Amos 'n' Andy and The Jack Benny Program. He recorded his first album at age fourteen. Barnum sang with the doo-wop groups The Dootones and The Robins in the late 1950s. His first major hit as a producer was "Tan Shoes and Pink Shoelaces." Although Barnum recorded three albums and a hit single during the 1960s, his work as a producer and an arranger began to outpace his vocal career. Barnum has arranged music for a broad spectrum of artists, including Aretha Franklin, B.B. King and Puff Daddy. In the mid-1970s, Barnum switched to scoring television series and composing advertising jingles. He has won international awards for his commercial compositions. Barnum is responsible for over 100 gold LPs and 160 gold singles.
