  • John Marshall was active between 1800 and 1831 (see British Book Trade Index). According to Frances M. Thomson's "Newcastle chapbooks," Marshall started business in Gateshead in 1801, and later added an office in Newcastle; in directories for 1821/2 and 1823 he appears only at Old Flesh-Market in Newcastle, where he is described as a "bookseller, binder, stationer, printer and circulating library."
