Summary
Two eyes peer out of the gloom; they are the eyes of Rembrandt van Rijn. Tim Marlow documents Rembrandt's rise in Amsterdam during its Golden Age, and how the city shaped his career. Works featured in this program include "Self-Portrait" (1629), "The Anatomy Lesson of Doctor Nicolaes Tulp," "The Descent from the Cross," "Self-Portrait" (1640), "The Night Watch," and "Hendrickje Bathing in a River.
