  • Salesman's dummy for 3 publications by H. Mansfield. Includes title page as above, colored frontispiece, "Extracts from literary notices," 12 leaves of b&w illustrations, folded facsimile of Bunyan's will, list of illustrations, and 8 blank leaves of ruled paper. Volume also includes title pages only for "History of the North American Indians ... by John McIntosh ..." and "The life and voyages of discovery of Americus, after whom our country was named. ... By C.E. Lester ... and Andrew Foster ... Fourth edition ... ." Each of these two title pages is also followed by a gathering of 8 leaves of ruled paper.
  • The colored frontispiece and the same leaf of "Extracts from literary notices" appeared in the 1858 edition of Bunyan's life.
  • "The work will be printed on fine paper-- large size octavo-- of at least 650 pages, including the engravings, and will be handsomely and durably bound in embossed covers, with strong spring backs, extra gilt, and furnished to subscribers at two dollars and twenty-five cents per copy. The bearer of this Prospectus is fully authorized to sell this work by subscription, according to the conditions. ... " -- Bunyan title page. Similar notes, with varying numbers of pages and prices, appear on the other two title pages.
