Local Notes
SPECIAL COLLECTIONS: Contemporary (publisher's?) gilt-tooled black morocco, with blind and gilt stamped borders and panels on sides and elaborately gilt spine; all edges gilt. Inscribed on blank leaf at front, "The gift of Mrs. Cotton, Executrix to my late worthy and much esteemed friend Mrs. Clementina Lewis, of Huntingdonshire, to John Brock, then Vicar of Gt. Stukeley and Curate of Huntingdonshire." According to an 1830 letter from Henry Venn, which was laid in, this was one of the books bequeathed by John Brock to Baden and Esther Powell. Bookplate of W.R.H.J., identified by dealer as Wynne R. Jeudwine. Book Arts Press Fund and Associates Endowment Fund, 2014/2015. Venn's letter, and a copy of Roger Gaskell's description of the book have been placed in the INSERT FILE.
