Summary
Letter written by Private James H. Cunningham who lost his leg and was being treated at the Confederate hospital in Charlottesville. He praised the hospital for being healthy (no deaths) and liked that it was located within sight of the Blue Ridge Mountains. He was writing to Mr. W. N. Smith who was a sutler with the 2nd Missouri regiment, CSA. Cunningham also mentions that the soldiers are all confident of their success in the coming battles around Richmond and that General "Grant would like to try Vicksburg on [them] again" but would not be able to as General Lee had heavy reinforcements.
