Summary
Amy Jade Winehouse was born on September 14, 1983 and rose to international acclaim as an English singer-songwriter, known for her eclectic mix of various musical genres including R & B, soul, and jazz, and for her powerful contralto vocals. Winner of five categories at the 2008 Grammy Awards, Winehouse's legacy and body of music were just beginning to develop when tragedy struck. The singer's monumental talent was tainted by media attention paid to her equally encompassing substance abuse and mental health issues, along with personal problems within her immediate family and troubled marriage. In 2005, she went through a period of drinking, heavy drug use, violent mood swings, and weight loss. Amy Winehouse was found dead at her home on the afternoon of July 23, 2011, a loss that was immediately registered in the fans she left behind. This video release pays tribute to her fascinating and turbulent life.
