Biographical Note
"Wednesdays in Mississippi" program was created in 1964 by Polly Cowan and Dr. Dorothy I. Height, president of the National Council of Negro Women, to link financially well-to-do black and white women in northern cities with black and white women in Mississippi. The former flew to Jackson, Mississippi every week for one on one meetings "to make contact, to communicate, and to achieve understanding and reconciliation."
