Summary
This episode of the U.S. Army's The Big Picture television series is a salute to the American Red Cross, an organization that began with a few simple doughnut wagons and field kitchens and has become the principle organization through which 40 million citizens give something of themselves for the sake of others. This video from the National Archives and Records Administration presents the colorful, dramatic history of the Red Cross and follows American soldiers to remote corners of the world as they fulfill roles for this organization. This film also features a special message from General Alfred M. Gruenther, President of the American National Red Cross, who sums up the program as it affects every American.
