Summary
When a patient at a long-term care facility is depressed, confused, or displays aggressive behavior, it can create a stressful environment for other residents as well as numerous frustrations for the staff. This program is designed to help nursing assistants build support skills and develop a bedside manner as they meet the emotional needs of patients-while also avoiding burnout. Topics include the need to remain sensitive and flexible in response to a resident's emotional challenges, the importance of including patients in treatment decisions, and the best ways to address the hardships that long-term care causes patients and family members. Specific strategies for resolving conflicts and disruptions are also discussed.
