  • "[This work] is actually a reprint of the Seven songs of Francis Hopkinson with some changes and a change of sequence but with no mention of Hopkinson. Since the Seven songs were published in 1788, they could not have been sung at Monticello in 1785. Jefferson was in Paris as American minister to France from 1784 to 1789, therefore could not have participated in any music making at Monticello"--Krohn, E.C. Missouri music, 1971, p. 153.
