Notes
"A collection of parodies on contemporary American poets, all by Dalton, which began as an earnest attempt to compile an anthology of poetry on bicycles and bicyclists ... . Dalton put out an appeal to New England poets in the January 9 1878 Boston Globe to submit verse on 'the wheel' and 'wheel men.' None responded to the request, except for Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., and instead Dalton wrote parodies of those poets and imitations of poems they and others might have written on the bicycle. He identifies those parodied with initials." -- Brick Row Bookshop's description.
