Michael Kearney, M.D., FRCPI (Consultant in Palliative Medicine, Ireland/United Kingdom; Visiting Professor, Faculty of Medicine, McGill University, Monreal, Quebec; and Visiting Professor, Santa Barbara Graduate Institute, Santa Barbara, California) discussed how the caregiver is medicine and described the nature of suffering and healing in the physical and psychological realms. Dr. Kearney defined and illustrated two key principles needed for effective healing: (1) the wounded healer (knowing self and depth psychology) and (2) the rainmaker (inner harmony).
