Summary
Jeanne Guillemin, Ph. D. (Professor of Sociology, Boston College, Chestnut Hill Massachusetts and Senior Adviser, Security Studies Program, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts) presented her extensive research and discovery of facts concerning the 1979 Soviet anthrax incident, a brief overview of the 1972 smallpox epidemic in Yugoslavia, and a brief discussion of the 2001 letters that contained anthrax spores in the United States. The impacts of delayed diagnosis, political secrecy, religious repression, public health and communication of information were emphasized.
