Summary
The collection contains 11 undated snapshots of Millay taken by Witter Bynner at Millay's farm "Steepletop" in Austerlitz, N.Y.; an autograph address panel from an envelope in her hand; a program from the Vassar College production of two of her plays; an oversized postcard of a portrait of Millay issued by the National Portrait Gallery with the 18cent Millay stamp, 1981; and The Wiliam Jewell College Bulletin containing the 1951 Commencement Sermon by Walter Pope Binns in which Millay's "Conversation at midnight" is quoted.
Clippings are chiefly book reviews and obituaries written by Harold Lewis Cook, Sara Henderson Hay, Robert Hillyer, and John Ciardi whose essay provoked critical responses by several readers and by Millay's sister Norma. There are also a group of clippings, 1942-1961, on Lidice, the Czech village whose destruction by Nazis inspired Millay's poem "The murder of Lidice."
