  • In 1923, vaudeville and nightclub performers Rosetta and Vivian Duncan "called upon Catherine Cushing to write the book for their musical comedy take on Uncle Tom's Cabin, 'Topsy and Eva.' Theater audiences delighted in the production and Topsy, performed by Rosetta, and Eva, performed by Vivian, forever became linked with the Duncan sisters. A silent film adaptation appeared in 1927 diredcted by Del Lord with some scenes directed by D.W. Griffiths. Rosetta and Vivian reprised the roles in a 1935 short reeler named 'Surprise.' And, more than 30 years after their original creation of the roles, reprised them once again in the Liberace show in 1956." -- Description by E. Wharton & Co.
