Summary
The papers consist of the typesetting draft and some papers regarding the publication of The Sage of Monticello. The correspondence is chiefly with Basil Rauch, co-author with Mr. Malone on the 1960 college text Empire for Liberty, and with their publisher, Appleton-Century-Crofts.
Additionally, there is correspondence as editor of the Dictionary of American Biography, Columbia Studies in the Social Sciences and the History Book Club, and as the Bancroft prize juror, American Heritage Junior Library consultant and the Jefferson Heritage radio series consultant. There are also papers regarding the 1961 University of Virginia Founder's Day address and the Thomas Jefferson Foundation fellows.
Correspondents included prominent educators, publishers, and historians, including Douglass Adair, Daniel J. Boorstin, Bernard Bailyn, Julian Parks Boyd, Dana H. Ferrin, and Oliver Jensen.
