The papers contain a manuscript of "The evening wind," ca. 1840, with notes on the versos from Samuel Colman to Justus Starr Redfield and John Keese concerning proofs for its publication in "The poets of America."
With it is a letter, 1884 February 18, Redfield to George William Childs giving a detailed provenance of the manuscript, and explaining that the last two verses were written to accompany illustrations for the poem by John Gadsby Chapman in "The poets of America" which was edited by Keese and published by Colman.
