Correspondence, financial and legal papers, genealogical information and an ambrotype.
Collection consists chiefly of letters of brothers, Charles Beverly Tate, James Graham Tate, and William Hanson Tate to their father, Charles Campbell Tate, and siblings Nannie Montgomery Tate and John Montgomery Tate.
The brothers write about school news at Emory and Henry, 1859-1861, and Virginia Military Institute, 1857-1859; teaching at Anchor and Hope Academy, Wythe County, Virginia; a trip to Richmond for the dedication of the Crawford equestrian statue of George Washington; and the Civil War in which both William and James were killed.
